As I’m writing, the sky outside is dark gray and dropping a mixture of rain and snow on the rooftop just above my head. The day didn’t start out quite like that. In the morning while I had breakfast in front of my Macbook Pro the sky was still blue and temperatures hovered around -5 Celsius. A perfect day to take the bike through the snow at higher altitudes. Taking a bit of a slow start, I left my house around 10 AM. My goal was to climb above 1300 meters above sea level where snow levels are still plentiful. At first, the climbs were clear, frozen ground with only a few patches of snow here and there. As I got higher, snow started to cover the trails. With a frozen surface layer it became difficult to ride, so I hiked the steeper sections. At the top, the snow conditions forced me to take another way. Took an interesting loop that provided some scenic views of the Jura to the north and the Alps to the south. Today’s downhill was a workout too. I had to pedal to keep my front tire slicing through the snow.
