Project 69

I’ve got this old, hardly used Kelly Deluxe frame that’s been put away in a box for now seven years. I have two singlespeeds, and one can only ride one bike at a time. I do have some darn goood components just lying around, so I’m going to start my project 69 to build up the good old Kelly into a 69er. Since I have two singlespeeds already, but don’t own anything geared, the Kelly will become my first geared bike in twelve years. So, here’s what I’ve got so far:

  • green Kelly Deluxe frame
  • silver Chris King headset
  • Pace RC31Ti fork plus cantilever mounts
  • green Chris King singlespeed hubs
  • silver Thomson seatpost
  • black anodized M952 XTR cranks
  • 5-bolt crank spider
  • Shimano bottom bracket
  • Avid Single Digit Ultimate cantilevers
  • Titec Helion Ti lowriser
  • Eggbeater pedals
  • and an old Flite saddle

What I need is a stem (silver Thomson would match the post), brake levers and the whole drivetrain plus shifters. As the King hubs are singlespeed hubs, I want to build the bike as a 2x6, giving me 12 times more gears than I usually ride. What am I gonna do with all those gear choices? A Dura-Ace derailleur in the back should do the job, along with bar ends shifters on Paul thumbies. I also need a front derailleur and some decent chainrings and I should be set.

The whole thing won’t be built any time soon as I’ve got a serious relocation project coming up, but once settled it’ll get going. Stay tuned …
