Litespeed Ultimate

History

I purchased this Litespeed Ultimate in the fall of 2000 through a friend who was working at Sharp Bicycles in Lafayette, CA at the time. It came equipped with a Dura-Ace WH-7700 wheelset, the whole 7700 Dura-Ace gruppo, a 3T stem and 3T aluminum handlebar. From then to now, I swapped quite a few components. First came a Seven Titanium stem, later followed by Zipp carbon handlebars. I got some FSA Team Issue carbon cranks and later upgraded to the Shimano 7800 drivetrain plus shifters/brake levers. I rode it like that for a while and then replaced the Shimano wheels with a set of Fulcrum Racing 1. All of the old parts moved over to my Trek 5200 commuter. The last items to move from one bike to the other were the 7700 Shimano brakes. Some black FSA brakes took their spot. From 2000 to 2006, it was my weekend bike on which I often climbed Pine Flats, the Geysers, King Ridge, Sweetwater, Cavedale and many of the other fantastic Sonoma County climbs. From 2007 to 2010 the bike didn’t see much use due to an international move and me spending most of my riding time offroad. In the spring of 2010, I started riding a lot more on the road again and the bike received two small upgrades, a black & white SLR XP and some white Hudz. In the fall, a set of Rotor 3D30 is going to replace the FSA carbon cranks. While the bike is far from the light weight of current crop race bikes, it handles extremely well and is a absolute pleasure to ride. Unless I have some disposable income for something else, it’ll continue to be rolling across the many Jura mountain roads for the next couple of years.
